Board and Footstraps Tuning

Board Selection & Footstrap Tuning

These tips will help you select the most appropriate kiteboard for each situation, this in case you have more than 1 kiteboard:

  • If there are strong winds:
  1. The bidirectional board is your best choice
  2. A smaller bidirectional board would be recommended

  • If waters are choppy or if there are waves:
  1. The bidirectional board is the best suited one
  2. A smaller bidirectional board would be even better

  • If the wind is light:
  1. A larger board , a directional or a bidirectional one is required

When tuning the traps or the bindings on a bidirectional board, do as follows:

  • Use traps or bindings that have the same distance to the center of the board.
  • For tricks, or when you want to have better control over your board, wide stance is most suitable. Note that the distance between the binding must be larger than your shoulder width.
  • For better edging, try using a regular stance , meaning that the distance between the binding must be around shoulder width.
  • If you are a beginner in kitesurfing and if you are using a bidirectional board, use straps or sandal bindings

In case you wish to tune the footstrap positions on your directional board, use the following tips:

  • Front footstrap:
  1. For easy planning while learning, move front footstrap more forward
  2. If you want to turn the board more easily upwind, you should move front footstrap more backward
  • Back footstrap:
  1. It is required that the back footstrap must be shoulder width apart from the front footstrap
  2. In order to turn the board easily, try moving the back footstrap more backward, that is a wide stance.
  3. To easily edge the windward rail of the board to go upwind, the back footstrap must be moved more forward, that being a narrow stance.
